Pattaya, Thailand – Royal Cliff Hotels Group welcomed education ministers, senior government officials and representatives from international organizations across Southeast Asia, Australia and Europe to the 48th Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Council Conference (SEAMEO) on May 6-9, 2015.
The 48th SEAMEO Council Conference is the largest gathering of education ministers which aims to foster stronger cooperation in the education industry among Southeast Asian countries and other SEAMEO members. The opening ceremony of the 3-day event was addressed by H.E. Admiral Narong Pipatanasai, the Minister of Education of Thailand, and was well attended by other senior education ministers from 11 SEAMEO member states including Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.
The agenda of the 48th SEAMEO Council Conference was mainly focused on ongoing activities of the post-2015 development and education agendas in Southeast Asia, the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the convention and also the presentation of the SEAMEO affiliate membership certificate to the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE). The event comprised of several conferences which took place across the spacious and well-equipped meeting facilities of the Royal Cliff Grand Hotel. The highlight was a forum under the theme “Digital Learning for Creating Future Global Citizens”, supported by the Ministry of Education of Thailand.
On the evening of May 7, 2015, an elegant gala dinner sponsored by the Thai Government was held at the Pattaya Exhibition And Convention Hall (PEACH). It was attended by the Ministers of Education from Thailand, H.E. Admiral Narong Pipatanasai, from Brunei Darussalam, H.E. Mr. Pehin Abu Bakar Apong, from Indonesia, H.E. Dr. Anies Rasyid Baswedan, from Malaysia, H.E. Dato Seri Idris Jusoh, from Singapore, H.E. Mr. Swee Keat Heng, from Timor-Leste, H.E. Mr. Fernando Lasamade Araújo, from Vietnam, H.E. Prof. Dr. Pham Vu Luan along with Deputy Ministers of Education from Lao People’s Democratic Republic, H.E. Madame Sengdeuane Lachanthaboune and from Myanmar, H.E. Dr. Zaw Min Aung. In addition, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of Cambodia, H.E. Dr. Nath Bunroeun and the undersecretary of the Department of Education of the Philippines, Atty. Alberto Jesus Tiongson Muyot were also present during the evening. Delegates of the event were entertained by remarkable traditional Thai performances and live music from the College of Music, Mahidol University.
